Peterborough has produced some amazing artists over the years!

We should be very proud of musicians like Keith Palmer and Gizz Butt or the Prodigy as well as Andy Bell of Erasure that has come from Peterborough and gone on to sell hundreds of thousands of records worldwide! Aston Merrygold of JLS, no matter what you think of the band, is also one of Peterborough's most successful musicians of all time selling over 10 million records worldwide!

Keith Palmer of Maxim Reality & The Prodigy was born in Peterborough where he attended the Jack Hunt School. Youngest of seven children Palmer moved to London aged 17 to pursue his dreams as an underground MC. Introduced via a mutual friend to the newly formed group named The Prodigy Palmer decided to do a few shows with them before becoming a full member & vocalist. An integral part of The Prodigy's sound Palmer co-wrote tracks like Poison from Music For the Jilted Generation, 1994 & Breath from Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned. Having helped the band sell over 20 million records worldwide, as well as selling hundreds of thousands of concert tickets, Palmer is one of the most successful musicians Peterborough has produced!

Gizz Butt is another member of The Prodigy that grew up in Peterborough! The bands main guitarist during their most successful three years between 1995 & 1998. Butt left The Prodigy in 1998 forming Janus Stark who penned their US hit Every Little Thing Counts which let to Butt playing onstage with Foo Fighters on several occasions! Butt now teaches in the former Stamford School, now at Hampton College in Peterborough - pretty awesome music record for a teacher if you ask me!

Andy Bell, half of the synthpop duo Erasure, originated from Dogsthorpe in Peterborough. Along with keyboardist Vince Clarke the duo notched up an impressive 24 consecutive Top 20 hits in the UK between 1986 and 1997! To date, Erasure have released a massive 14 studio albums with three consecutive number ones making Andy Bell another contender for Peterborough's most successful artist! Selling a massive 25 million albums worldwide Erasure had a dramatic impact on the sound of the 80s and 90s synthpop as well as more recently with artists like La Roux!

Aston Merrygold (JLS) was born and raised in Peterborough, where he also attended Jack Hunt School. In 2008 Merrygold & his boyband entered the fifth series of X Factor eventually finishing as the runners-up to Alexandra Burke. Nonetheless, JLS went on to release their self-titled debut album which sold over 1 million records, reaching number one in the UK album charts & spawning two number one singles. With two further number ones in 2010 with their second album, Outta This World, which reached number two in the UK album charts & went double platinum Merrygold is unquestionably one of the most commercially successful musicians Peterborough has ever produced!
